Nigel Smith (B.A., M.B.A., LL.B.) was called to the Bar in 2016 and has been serving the Hamilton community since 2017. Nigel strives to work toward resolution outside of the courtroom. However, when litigation is required, he is a tenacious advocate for his clients’ interests.

Nigel grew up in Guelph, Ontario, but moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia to pursue an undergraduate degree in history from Dalhousie University. He returned to Ontario to complete a Master of Business Administration at Wilfred Laurier University before obtaining his law degree from the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom. Upon returning to Canada, Nigel completed his articles with a full-service law firm in Waterloo, Ontario, where he developed an interest in family law. Since being called to the bar, Nigel has practiced exclusively in Family Law.

Nigel is a strong community activist: he is a member of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Subcommittee for the Hamilton Law Association, the planning committee for the annual John Sopinka Lunch in association with the United Way of Burlington and Greater Hamilton, and the planning committee for Hamilton Lawyers Feed the Hungry.

Nigel is an avid golfer and squash player. He also enjoys reading, guitar, and can play a mean hand of Euchre.
